Being Proactive About Your Health

Everybody wants to be healthy, to look good and feel great both physically and emotionally. Although most people don't actually feel that way. Modern society has us stressed out, freaking out, and breaking out. Our hormones are out of whack, we're sluggish in the day and hyperactive at night, craving foods that we know aren't good for us, and frustrated with aches and pains that seem to never go away. We know these are all common complaints; everybody's got their "health thing". But in all actuality, just because symptoms like headaches or menstrual cramps are common, does not mean they are normal. In fact, those chronic health problems you see as minor and just a part of life, are actually your body signaling you that something is wrong.
Your health is your responsibility. These aches, pains, anxieties, digestive issues, skin problems, and irregularities are only informing one person of imbalance: you. You are the only one that can feed your body the nutrition, therapy, and guidance it needs. So many patients come to see me with the hope that I can "fix them". Acupuncture and herbs can open the door, but you yourself must walk through it. If you are not giving yourself the time, opportunity, or financial allowance that you know you need to give yourself, it will either continue to be a problem, or progress into something more serious. Typically, the more chronic a problem is, the more difficult it is to fix. The sooner you teach yourself to listen to what your body and mind is trying to tell you, the closer you are to improving it.
Another thing many of my patients, friends, and family are blind to is the importance of self care. You deserve to take care of yourself. Lifelong habits can be stubborn, but the changes made can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Change can be stressful and uncomfortable, but feelings of discomfort mean you are growing. Health is an investment, and the more you invest in it, the more you will benefit.

Seeking medical help does not mean you are weak. This is especially evident in the modern day culture of masculinity. If you have an exceedingly painful, chronic, or frustrating problem, there is never a reason to just suck it up or ignore it. Ignoring a health condition can be extremely dangerous in certain situations. Whether it be physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, a health crisis never deserves to be neglected.
That is the beauty of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture and herbs merely give your body the opportunity to heal itself. You have everything you need to heal yourself inside your body at this very moment. It simply needs guidance.

Get Acupuncture. Take herbs. Do yoga. Eat right. Exercise. Your body will thank you.
